Bio

Family artistic roots run deep. My early guidance comes from my mother who is a mixed media artist. Sheequipped me with the necessary fundamentals at a young age. With self-directed training and workshops withrenowned artists like Suchitra Bhosle, Ingrid Christensen and Pramod Kurlekar, I have continued to hone myskills over the last 7 years. My paintings have been shown in various art galleries in Bermuda, namely Masterworks Museum, BermudaArts Center at Dockyards and Bermuda Society of Arts. My first solo show entitled “Bermuda in Bloom” washeld in 2018 at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art where I exhibited 30 paintings out of which 27 weresold. Through these galleries, my works were placed in private collections in the US, UK, Canada, and Europe.I relocated to Montréal in 2019, and since then my works have been juried into several national level showshosted by the Federation of Canadian Artists. Most recently, my works have been shown in the Summer &Grace Gallery located in Oakville, Ontario and Viva Vida Gallery & Art Center in Pointe Claire, Québec. In Montréal, I actively contribute to the arts as a Board Member of ArtTram which is a non-profit artorganization.I have lived in four countries and I have had the privilege of crossing paths with numerous people of diversebackgrounds. My interactions have shaped and directed my artistic journey. Primarily, I am drawn to thehuman form and portraiture, and I strive to capture the spirit of the subject in my paintings.

Artist Statement

From the impressionism of masters like John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla to the bold strokes ofKonstantin Korovin, I paint the human form to continually push boundaries of traditional techniques andchallenge perceptions. My goal is to invite my viewers into a world of new and unexpected ways of seeing thehuman form.Faced with a blank canvas, I approach my subject as a collection of shapes. I use big brushes to mass in thekey shapes while focusing foremost on value and colour temperature. My aim is to capture the essence of mysubject and the mood of the setting. Time spent on details using smaller brushes is saved for the very end.Oil is my medium of choice for its smoothness and elegance, and I enjoy acrylics for their quick drying timeand versatility. I often combine the two, creating backgrounds with a variety of acrylic grounds and paints, and using oils to lend an overall smooth finish.A firm believer in painting from life, I organize biweekly live model sketching and painting sessions for thelocal artist community. Understanding human anatomy and mastering the use of values and colour are criticalto my genre as a figurative painter. Painting from life has allowed me to learn how to capture key informationquickly and accurately. This practice goes on to inform my in-studio paintings.
